I thought I’d make a blog post to give a general status/life update, but the main thing I want to do is advertise a new short story I’ve written, available now. This is my first experiment with publishing something I could, conceivably, receive financial compensation for.
There’s the link above. That’s An Average Sortie. Inspired by Gundam and Armored Core and big robots in general. It is available by donation (so you don’t technically need to pay to read it) but if you’ve enjoyed my writing in the past, consider throwing a couple bucks my way. Coffee ain’t free.
The story itself is also experimental, and pretty far outside my comfort zone. It’s sci-fi, and kinky! Yep, it’s adult fiction. Wow!
So, why ask money to read this story? Well, I think my writing has reached a level of quality where I can no longer just give it away for free, willy-nilly. Perhaps this is presumptuous of me. Annoyingly, I’d like to write for a living, but I do not think I can release content fast enough to build and sustain an audience that would support me via patreon. So this is an experiment to see if independent releases might be a way to go.
In other news, I am three drafts into a new novella. I’m quite pleased with it, although there is quite a long ways to go before I’m done. It has been very slow going, originally it was meant to be a side project to poke away at while I worked on other things, but it has slowly consumed my life. Whoops.
I am not sure what I am going to do with it once it is done. Time, and experiments like this paid release will help me decide.
